The Miniature Film Festival is exactly what it sounds like - a small celebration of small films. We want to acknowledge and promote filmmakers who make one-minute micro short films. We definitely aren't trying to pass ourselves off as a bigger festival because we are not big at all. We are a fun festival that wants to help create a community for tiny films and the ingenious filmmakers who make them - a miniature festival for miniature films!
Starting in 2015, we hosted annual screenings at a heritage venue, Barclay Manor, in Vancouver. These events were a lot of fun, and we even issued a Miniature Film Manifesto in 2016, the 100th anniversary of the Dada Manifesto! Viewers got to enjoy around 60-100 films each year and miniature cupcakes were the snack de jour at the events. For those who couldn't be there, we shared some video messages and photos from the gatherings on our Facebook page. Check out our Official Selections and Awards archive to see some of the many films we have been pleased to feature!
All things evolve, and our festival is no exception. After 5 years of in-person screening events, we added the Miniature Film Festival Screening Room in 2020, a place where filmmakers could share out links to their one-minute films for free and enjoy some feedback and camaraderie from fellow miniature filmmakers. The Covid crisis in 2020 made it more difficult to safely have in-person events, so we are currently focusing on our online Screening Room as a safe, affordable and fun alternative. Bring your own miniature cupcakes and enjoy from the comfort of your own homes!
With our 2020 season now behind us, we are currently closed and will be considering what form the festival might take in the future. Thank you for all your surpport and enthusiasm through the years!
The Miniature Film Festival was founded by Robert David Duncan. with help and support from a number of friends. We are filmmakers, and we love making miniature films. We hope you will take part in our little festival and join our community!
All films must be one-minute or less, though we will consider at our discretion a film that is a few seconds over on a case-by-case basis. We are not looking for teasers, trailers or parts of larger work - the entire story or piece of art has to be encompassed in your one-minute submission. Films can be shot or edited using any device or software. Thanks, and we look forward to seeing your films!
